I believe every player can improve with hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn. As a coach, I focus on teaching strong fundamentals, defensive intensity, basketball IQ, and teamwork while creating a competitive environment where players are challenged to become the best version of themselves. One thing I tell my players is that hard work and dedication will always give you an opportunity to succeed. Talent can give you a head start, but consistent effort, discipline, and the desire to improve are what separate great players over time. My goal is to help every player grow not just as a player, but as a teammate, leader, and person.

While basketball teaches skills like teamwork, discipline, effort, and resilience, I believe the
bigger goal is to create an environment where every player feels encouraged, valued, and
challenged to become the best version of themselves. Through sports, I hope to help players
develop confidence, accountability, perseverance, leadership, and the ability to support
teammates. More importantly, I want children to love the game, believe in themselves, and
understand that growth also comes through effort, attitude, and teamwork.

Effort and attitude are the standard for everyone. Not every kid has the same talent, but every kid controls how hard they work and how they treat their teammates.
We build fundamentals first. Footwork, spacing, and basketball IQ matter more long-term than flashy plays.
Playing time is earned in practice, not decided by reputation. I’m consistent about this so every kid knows exactly where they stand and what it takes to earn more minutes.
I hold myself accountable too. I ask a lot of these kids, and in return I owe them preparation, honesty, and fairness every time we’re together.
The tough moments are part of the coaching. A bad call, a benching, a loss — how a kid handles those teaches more than a made shot ever will. I
I coach with over 25 years of coaching experience, including 14 seasons as a high school varsity coach, and I take this seriously — but I also want your kids to have fun, be challenged, and grow.

I believe youth sports should help players build confidence, character, and a love for the game. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where every player is challenged to improve their skills, work hard, be a great teammate, and compete with respect. Success isn't measured only by wins and losses, but by each player throughout the season.

I have been coaching for 19 years this season. I enjoy building kids up and showing them they can achieve much more than they think possible. The biggest win every year doesn’t come from the scoreboard; it comes from seeing how far the team has come. Pushing them all to new heights, building confidence, and helping them become more responsible young men.

I celebrate growth, reward progress, and encourage every athlete to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn. Every day, in every way, we strive to become a little better than we were yesterday. With dedication, accountability, and a team-first mindset, we build not only better basketball players, but stronger teammates and leaders. Winning is the result of doing the little things right, together, every single day.

Basketball and coaching have always been a part of my life. Growing up in South Carolina, I watched my uncle lead teams to multiple state championship appearances while also building lasting relationships with his players long after their playing days ended. I am grateful to be a part of the Getchell family, an experience that has been meaningful in my coaching journey.
I believe basketball is one of the few environments where kids can face failure, learn from it, and see their growth through hard work and persistence. The game naturally builds resilience, accountability, and teamwork, while also forming connections that extend well beyond the court.
For me, coaching is about more than teaching the game. It's a chance to positively impact young athletes, challenge them to grow, and share a sport that has shaped my life.

The 2026-2027 8th-grade boys' basketball season is about to begin. I wanted to reach out to all of you and introduce myself. My name is Nathaniel Brost (NJ). I'm very excited to have the opportunity to coach your children. We want to have clear goals and expectations for your boys. This will only work if we all work together. As a coach, I will model good sportsmanship, and I expect the players to do the same. They will only learn this from us as a group. If you, as parents, will do the same in the stands and all other areas, it is appreciated.
Our purpose, program objectives, and youth sports philosophy will follow the Marysville Getchell Select Program. With this being said, we will preach to the kids an abbreviated, simple version. What are they? The 4 P’s are below. I've used this throughout my 25 years of coaching at various levels, from high school down to the 1st-grade level. Practice hard, play hard, and always have a positive attitude,
play to win, and have fun!
Basketball requires a commitment of time and effort. If you want your boys to be successful and have a great experience, it will take a commitment and sacrifice from all of us. I hope that friendships, teamwork, confidence, and the development of self-esteem are just some of the positives of being a member of this team. My top priority and commitment to all of you is SAFETY.
