1. Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to coaching?
There's something about basketball that I naturally gravitate toward—I just love the game. As they say, "Ball is life." I began coaching action sports in 2010, so when the chance to coach a basketball team came up, it was an easy decision. I was excited and ready for the challenge.
2. What has been your most memorable coaching moment so far?
The Most memorable moments is those light bulb moments when you start developing a kids game and they say “ hey coach remember those things we were working on? it worked!” These moments are so pure because they see that hard work pays off
3. How do you approach training and development for your athletes?
Every player is different. I start by analyzing the talent of the player . Identify goals they would like to reach then set a training plan to achieve those goals.
4. What inspires you as a coach?
What inspires me as a coach is I love the Development aspect of the sport seeing a player flourish to become a better player that they were yesterday is an awesome experience.
5. How do you build team spirit and camaraderie among your players?
MGSB Culture is a high spirit and very positive team environment. I build the team’s spirits and camaraderie’s through team building activities on and off the court. It’s important to instill how being a team not an individual can lead to a successful season.
6. What qualities do you look for in an athlete?
Qualities I look for in an athlete is Effort
Effort is an essential component in achieving success. No matter how smart, physical, or talented a player is, without effort, none of that matters. There is no deny the truth that effort cannot be taught. It is a personal choice to give 100% effort and strive for excellence. It’s easy to be good but it’s hard to be great. The big difference between a good player and a great player is that great players don’t get tired. What makes them great is when the good player gets tired the great player kicks their ass.
7. What is your coaching philosophy?
My basketball Philosophy is hard work beats talent every time when talent doesn’t work hard
1. What has been your most memorable coaching moment so far?
By far the most memorable moment of my time coaching was seeing how close the team has become and how much they’ve improved not only as individual players but as a team. More importantly, it didn’t matter whether they walked away with Win or not, they still rooted for one another.
2. How do you approach training and development for your athletes?
I’m a firm believer that every athlete MUST have a good stamina and endurance. So I focus on that aspect of training and then I work on their technical skills. Every practice I like to build on what we did the last practice and continue to add more tools in their tool box.
3. What inspires you as a coach?
My kids definitely inspired me to coach. Also, I was a previous Director and choreographer of a youth dance team and I’ve always enjoyed teaching.
4. How do you build team spirit and camaraderie among your players?
I like to make sure everyone is empowered and understand that they have a voice on the team. And I like to drive home that concept of “we win and lose as a team”.
5. What qualities do you look for in an athlete?
Some of the qualities I look for are: someone who is willing to grow, asks and listens to feedback, and someone who is unselfish.
