1. Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to coaching?
I’ve been fortunate to coach across multiple levels and sports over the years. I served as the Head Assistant Coach for Everett CC Baseball from 2005 to 2011 and was the Head Coach for Laces Baseball Academy 18u from 2005 to 2020. In 2021, I transitioned to coaching girls basketball and currently lead the Marysville Getchell Select 2030 Girls team. My journey into coaching was driven by a passion for helping young athletes grow—not just in their sport, but as individuals. I’ve always believed in the power of sports to teach life lessons, build character, and create lasting relationships.
2. What has been your most memorable coaching moment so far?
One of the most unforgettable moments came during the 2024 Girls State Tournament. We were down 16-0 at the end of the first quarter, and things looked bleak. But the team showed incredible resilience and heart, battling back to win the game in the final minutes. It was a powerful reminder of what belief, teamwork, and grit can accomplish.
3. How do you approach training and development for your athletes?
Every athlete is unique, with different strengths and areas for growth. My approach is to meet each athlete where they are, while consistently challenging them to reach new heights. I believe in being open and honest—with both athletes and their families—about current roles and what steps are needed for continued development. Clear communication and individualized support are key to helping athletes thrive.
4. What inspires you as a coach?
I’m inspired by the dedication and effort young athletes put into their craft. Watching them work hard and then seeing that hard work pay off—whether it’s a skill mastered, a personal best achieved, or a moment of leadership—is incredibly rewarding. It’s those moments of growth, both on and off the court, that fuel my passion for coaching.
5. How do you build team spirit and camaraderie among your players?
Team culture is everything. I emphasize that every player is expected to support and encourage their teammates. We strive to create a family-like environment where we celebrate each other’s successes—sometimes even more than our own. When players feel valued and connected, they play harder and grow stronger together.
6. What qualities do you look for in an athlete?
I look for character, especially in how athletes handle adversity. It’s easy to be positive when things are going well, but true growth happens when you’re faced with challenges. I value athletes who stay committed, show resilience, and use setbacks as fuel to improve.
7. What is your coaching philosophy?
We win as a team, and we lose as a team. I believe the best players are those who elevate the performance of those around them—who inspire confidence and bring out the best in their teammates. Success is built on unity, effort, and shared purpose.
