1. Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to coaching?

I first got into coaching with my kids T-Ball team at the YMCA. Since then I’ve volunteered to help coach the various other sports my kids have played - Soccer, Basketball and Flag Football.  Meeting kids and families from around the community that I wouldn’t otherwise get to know has been fun. The support from those families, staff and other coaches has made it easy to keep volunteering. 

2. What has been your most memorable coaching moment so far?  

No one moment comes to mind as most memorable so a few that come to mind - learning the game of soccer while coaching it the first year, a flag football championship win after previously believing we were eliminated from playoffs, some shocking smack talk in the younger years, sudden death playoff basketball OT win, and a few kids over the years where you saw major development over just a few months in skill and confidence. 

3. How do you approach training and development for your athletes?

I try to identify their individual strengths and get them to play with those in mind while having them identify their own weakness to work on to become more well rounded players. 

4. What inspires you as a coach?

Other coaches and focused/motivated kids. 

5. How do you build team spirit and camaraderie among your players?  

Taking time to let the kids just play together. Either with some activity I suggest or more often a pick from the group. Besides that, reminding and encouraging the kids to cheer for each other.  Positive vibes!

6. What qualities do you look for in an athlete?

Respect of others, discipline, and serious effort. 

7. What is your coaching philosophy?

If giving true effort, all kids can be key contributors to a teams success. As a coach I need to try and keep the group focused while not taking the fun away from the game.
